DR JOHANN LAMPRECHT
His special interest is intra-ocular surgeries, including procedures for cataract, glaucoma and retinal pathology, as well as neuro-ophthalmology.In 2016, Johann was a consultant specialist at St John Eye Hospital, Soweto, and an associate lecturer at WITS University, training up new eye specialists in anterior segment surgery and facilitating the Cornea and Glaucoma sub-specialty clinics.
He completed his eye specialist training and Ophthalmology Masters degree in 2015 after joining the University of the Witwatersrand’s Ophthalmology department in 2011. He moved to Johannesburg for his internship and community service subsequent to finishing his MBChB degree in 2007 at the University of the Free State.
He was recently selected as a member of the first OSSA Young Ophthalmologists subcommittee and has a passion for helping people discover the unique strengths they were created with in order to realize their full potential. He enjoys teaching others as much as learning new things himself, especially in the ever-changing, technology-driven, highly specialized field of eye medicine.
He is married, actively participates in community youth programs, enjoys apologetics, music, reading and exercise.
THE PRACTICES
The OXFORD EYE CENTRE is an established, multi-generational ophthalmology practice in the heart of Johannesburg. The consulting rooms were recently relocated to a beautifully refurbished suite on 109 Oxford Road. The interior contains some of the latest diagnostic technologies, including wavefront analysis, spectral domain OCT and automated perimetry.
Eye specialists currently consulting at The Oxford Eye Centre are Drs Milica Dvornak, Peter Challis, Barry Payne and Johann Lamprecht. Eye lasers and operations are performed by these doctors on site as well as at Sandhurst Eye Centre or Johannesburg Eye Hospital.
The KEMPTON EYE INSTITUTE is a fully equipped, multi-site ophthalmology practice in the east of Johannesburg, with rooms at 84 Van Riebeeck Road, 40 Monument Road and 77 Minuach Road.
Other eye specialists consulting at the Kempton Eye Institute include Drs Roger Dyason, Dalena Marx and Andre Botha. Surgical cases from the Eye Institute are managed at the SurgiKlin Day Clinic.
