Description

Chartwell House is more than a school. It is a family who share the same goals and aspirations for their children, and their education.

WE OFFER:

* a true Montessori learning environment, accredited by the South Africa Montessori Association
* small classes with a focus on each learner
* regular feedback sessions with parents
* a countryside feel, encouraging a lot of outdoor activities

After many years of Singing Forest parents requesting an opportunity for their children to continue in the Montessori way of life with an authentic Montessori primary education, we bought a burnt-down ruin in Chartwell in 2014 and turned it into our very own primary school.

We’ve come a long, long way since then and now have a thriving community of 68 three to twelve-year-olds mining their untapped talent, developing their ability to think for themselves, a personal love of work and learning, becoming accountable for how they manage their time and execute their responsibilities.

These are children who are learning to take pride in what they do for intrinsic rewards, not external rewards, are growing an internal work ethic, muscles of proactivity and initiative and making a positive contribution to their social community.

We are very proud of them. These are the movers and shakers of tomorrow, the children who will become young adults who think for themselves and are trend setters, not followers. They children who are secure in themselves and their abilities, and desire to be the best they can possibly be, for internal rewards.

At Chartwell House we hand select applicants through a stringent admissions process. Applicants are required to come for a 3-day trial and parent interview for consideration of acceptance into our school.

OUR SCHOOL

Situated in Chartwell, in the north of Johannesburg, the school’s surrounds lends itself to an authentic Montessori experience. With loads of open space and close to nature, our students have the freedom to play and learn in a safe ‘countryside’ environment.

Our two pre-schools, Singing Forest Montessori Fourways and Singing Forest Montessori Chartwell, serve as incubators for our little seedlings from 18 months old up to six years of age and both campuses offer Grade R classes.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

We believe in every child and are committed to helping them soar.We do this by recognizing their individual strengths, nurturing who they are and helping them unlock their unique potential. Due to the rapidly changing and increasingly dynamic career landscape our children will face, they need to be firmly grounded in ingenuity, creativity and adaptability.

Therefore our focus, besides education, is on developing the characteristics that will enable them to take initiative, be proactive, organize themselves, set goals and achieve them, manage their own time and experience the internal satisfaction that comes from being self-motivated, diligent and applying oneself.

It is with this in mind that we particularly focus on building the inner skills that are required to become self-sufficient. Our schools have a sustainability focus.

Our multi-form for the primary school is made of local Three Cat Shweshwe, and each item is hand sewn by Ma Catherine, a woman of dignity and strength, who supports her family. Each school also cultivates its own food forest, where children plant and harvest organic vegetables and fruit.

Indigenous, water wise fauna and flora are protected and new plants are researched and specifically chosen to attract butterflies and birds. The children recycle and are conscious of our need to refurbish the soil. They do this by ensuring that all bio-degradable food “left overs” are put through a bokashi bin cycle and composted.
